" How all occasions do inform against me, And spur my dull revenge! What is a man If his chief good and market of his time Be but to sleep and feed?" Act.4 Sc.4 p.203 l.34-37 The first sentence says that he knows that he is wrong and that he
should hurry with his revenge. In the second sentence he asks what is a
man being if he just eats and sleeps. This passage shows that he knows
that the time is right to take revenge and that he has enough evidence
to take revenge but still he is so weak and scared to take revenge.
"How came he dead? I’ll not be juggled with. To hell, allegiance! Vows, to the blackest devil! Conscience and grace, to the profoundest pit! I dare damnation. To this point I stand That both the worlds I give to negligence. Let come what comes, only I’ll be revenged." Act.4 Sc.5 p.215 l.148-153 Laertes asks how his father died and that Claudius should not mess with him.In
the second part he says that he doesn't care if he goes to hell and
that he will revenge his dad whatever it costs. Laertes has everything
what Hamlet misses in his revenge. Laertes is ready to die and he is
not scared to go to hell on the other side is Hamlet who is scared to
take revenge for his dad. This part shows a great contrast because both
want to revenge their fathers but there is still a difference because
Laertes is ready to do what ever it takes and Hamlet is delaying his
revenge because he is to weak and scared. "And so have I a noble father lost,A sister driven into desperate terms, Whose worth, if praises may go back again, Stood challenger on mount of all the age For her perfections. But my revenge will come."Act.4 Sc.7 p.225 l.27-31
Laertes talks about his dead noble father
and his beautiful sister who became insane because the dead of her
father. He is ready to take revenge. The passage shows again the
difference between Hamlet and other Characters in the book. Everybody
can take revenge except Hamlet. And we don't really know why hamlet
struggles with his revenge because he has good reasons to kill his
father's murder. |
